What is VAT

VAT (Value Added Tax) is a consumption tax added to the price of goods and services. VAT-registered businesses charge it on their sales and remit it to the tax authority.

How to calculate VAT

To add VAT: multiply the net price by the VAT rate. For example, at 18%: VAT = net price × 0.18, and the gross price = net price × 1.18.

To remove VAT: divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1 plus the VAT rate. For example, at 18%: net price = gross price ÷ 1.18, and VAT = gross price − net price.
